It was one of the most emblematic rooms in the country, debuted great classics of Portuguese cinema and was so dear to António de Oliveira Salazar that the managers assured him a captive cabin.
Cinema Odéon is located on Rua dos Condes, a few steps from the Hard Rock Café Lisbon and Avenida da Liberdade. Built in 1927, it was one of the noblest places in the country but ended its days with pornographic films.
Closed since the 90’s, Cinema Odéon is a shadow of what it was. The lining of the chairs is torn, the ceiling has subsided in some areas of the building, and the paint has already given up holding onto the walls. But not all was vandalised or destroyed by the passage of time: inside still survives the pediment of the stage Art Deco style or the roof in the shape of a keel of a ship.
